Description
Cranksgiving Tampa 2020
Event Details
Cranksgiving is back for 2020, but it's going to be a bit different this year. We're still ironing out all the details, so stay tuned for more information on how we'll be hosting this year's socially distanced food drive on two wheels. Be sure to read the information below, and we hope to see you there!
____________
WHAT IS CRANKSGIVING?
Cranksgiving is a bicycle scavenger hunt and food drive, and these events take place across the nation in November to benefit local charities as they prepare for Thanksgiving. The ninth edition of Cranksgiving Tampa will continue to benefit Metropolitan Ministries.
In 2019, 100 riders collected 1,928 pounds of food, including 65 frozen turkeys, all of which was donated to Metropolitan Ministries. We also raised $1,050 through a raffle that was donated to the Apple A Day Foundation.
CRANKSGIVING DURING A PANDEMIC?!
At a typical Tampa Cranksgiving, we'd all gather in the morning for registration at Coppertail Brewing Co's back lot, form teams, hand out maps and shopping lists, and set everyone off at once for the big ride. We'd compete to see who could finish first, which team collected the most food items, and who'd carry back the biggest frozen turkey. After we were done, we'd hang out with beer and food, sell raffle tickets for big prizes, and reward our top finishers.
Don't expect any of that this year.
Amid a global pandemic, we can't gather and ride the way we normally would. We're still figuring it all out, but we do know that there will *not* be a big pre-race registration in the morning. We'll likely post a grocery list here the night before. You'll show up to Coppertail's back lot on the day of the event, on your bicycle, with food items in tow. As long as you show up on your bike with at least a to-be-determined number of food items, we'll consider you to have "completed" the event. All finishers will be entered into a raffle for prizes, and winners will be announced the following day on FB and via email or phone, and prizes will be hand delivered.
The biggest turkey competition is *definitely* still on, as well as some form of a point competition. But there will be no gathering and hanging out. We know it's not going to be the standard Cranksgiving event yo
