Like previous beer-soaked, tongue-in-cheek BeerFest events like "Barley’s Angels," "The Brews Brothers" and "Hoppy Gilmore," "Hop Gun" is chaired by the closest pair Tampa Theatre has to Maverick and Goose: Michelle Baker, owner-manager of The Refinery; and Veronica Danko, owner of The Independent Bar and Cafe. And though the theme may be silly, BeerFest’s purpose is most serious: Now in its 7th year, the (almost) annual event is one of Tampa Theatre’s favorite fundraisers, benefitting the historic movie palace’s artistic, educational and community programs, as well as its ongoing preservation.
A limited-capacity premium sampling begins at 7:00 p.m., and advance-sale tickets are $65. Grand sampling ticket-holders can enter at 8:00 p.m., and advance-sale tickets are $40. Advance sale discounts end Friday, July 20, when day-of prices go up to $70 and $45.
BeerFest guests are invited don their beer goggles (that’s what’s on the front of a flight helmet, right?), dress as their favorite Top Gun character, or come in a costume inspired by the movie.
Guests must be 21 or older to attend BeerFest; valid Government-issued ID is required for entry.
Support for BeerFest is provided by Mutual of Omaha Bank, Silva and Associates, the Tampa Bay Times, AgileThought, eNox Media, Power Design, Inc., the Frank Albert A-Team at Charles Rutenberg Realty, Nancy & Mark Hutson, and Sun Equities Consulting, LLC.
