Description
Due to the persistent winds in the Tampa Bay Area, we regretfully have to cancel the 2016 Summer of Rum Festival.
Event Details
As we arrived this morning to the event site, storm bands from Hurricane Hermine were producing sustained winds at 20-30mph, with gusts much higher. This kind of wind presents safety concerns for our vendors, crew, staff, and artists to be able to set up in time to open our gates tomorrow. Tents would have not been able to sustain the winds and risk blowing away. Stage, lights, and sound equipment would not have been able to be raised. Safety of our crew and YOU, our supporters, is our #1 concern and the primary reason for this cancellation.
As for ticket refunds, all tickets will be refundable from the ticket outlet where you purchased your tickets. Please be patient and allow us a few days to reach our ticket vendors and set up this refund process. Please continue to check our Facebook page for updates.
This is a heartbreaking decision we had to make. Unfortunately, the Hurricane's (not the drink) lingering effects is just something that we could not foresee after the storm had passed us. Hundreds of jobs are affected by this decision, from our set up crew, our event staff, to the band, and the bartenders. However, their safety is our main concern.
Keep in mind that Big City Events is a local Tampa company and we are not going anywhere. The Summer of Rum Festival will be back next year! We are here to stay and our mission remains to ‘create things to do’ in Tampa. Please join us for our other upcoming festivals Sushi Battle and Bourbon and Brew Festival this fall.
