Small business is the backbone of local economies.
Small business shopping and supporting local companies that are growing are important to the Tampa community. When a consumer buys local, more of that money stays in the community. One study revealed that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 remained within the local economy while only $43 of each $100 spent at a chain retailer.
Big Country Golf is one of those local small businesses. The new brand launched its e-commerce store this past spring.
“The revenue generated gets reinvested into the community, from hiring staff to vendors,” explained Dave Bradford, a Tampa business executive.
Small businesses also have the ability to offer a more direct, personal approach with customers. “Each customer represents lifetime value,” Bradford said. “Especially when the brand is good, and quality products are a priority.”
The Big Country Behind Big Country
When you know the people behind the business where you’re buying local products and services, you enjoy a connection that you would not otherwise have with big chain stores.
Bradford is a business executive in Tampa. “I play golf for the competition, the comradery, and the challenge,” he said. “Similar to sitting around the campfire, I just love the time with the guys telling stories and laughing, whether in the clubhouse at the 19th hole or on the course."
“And professionally, I’ve made some of the best connections and struck the best deals in a golf cart, on a green, or in the tee box,” he added.
In his downtime, Bradford is “a boots and blue jeans-wearing” guy who loves the outdoors. In addition to golf, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and any activity where he can unleash his competitive spirit.
Standing tall at 6’4” and 300 pounds, Bradford was bestowed the nickname Big Country. His size is the inspiration behind starting his golf apparel business. “Given my stature and my generally country boy (or redneck) demeanor (you can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy), my caddie started calling me ‘Big Country,’” said Bradford.
“Having always been a big guy, I’ve struggled finding apparel that fits and fits well,” Bradford said.
Bradford addressed this common struggle by starting the Big Country brand. Available in sizes up to 4XL, their performance polo shirts are designed with the big and tall man in mind. Shirts are three inches longer, and the sleeves are two inches shorter.
Customers can expect a comfortable, functional, and premium fit. “Folks like the brand name and products are excellent quality,” he said.
