Green Iguana is easily one of the biggest names when it comes to popular nightlife and restaurant destinations in the Tampa Bay area. Their Ybor City location is one of a kind, though. Owned by the people that brough Ybor restaurant mainstays Bernini and Carne Chophouse into fruition, Green Iguana Ybor is a prime destination for cheap drinks, laid back vibes, and casual fare to match.
In the spirit of full disclosure, Green Iguana Ybor has been a longtime friend of 813area.com, and for good reason. This casual dining and drinking destination embodies much of what we love about Tampa and all the great times that can be had here both before and after the sun goes down.
A trip early Friday afternoon did little to change our minds, and that's a great thing. Stop in to Green Iguana Ybor during the lunch hour and you'll find a sparsely pack, laid back environment where the good food comes with little frills and quickly affordable at that.
Appetizers are abundant, but the nachos are a tried and true classic, piled mountain-high with enough chips, grilled chicken, and all the typical fixings to easily feed a table of five. Are they stellar, maybe even out of this world? Not quite, but very scrumptious for the sheer volume of the thing.
Burgers are Green Iguana's pride and joy with each touting a half pound of seasoned beef with an assortment of specialized and customizable toppings. The mushroom swiss was a nice surprise today touting a huge portion of thick-cut bacon, swiss, and sauteed mushrooms well worth the ~9 dollar price tag.
You know what you're getting with Green Iguana Ybor, and sometimes that's necessary. We all need bars and restaurants we can consistently depend on and Green Iguana has delivered each and every time.
