Mema's Alaskan Tacos in Ybor City, Florida have announced that they will be closing their doors. Actually, their doors closed yesterday on October 13, 2011 but will be open October 14 to sell the rest of their beer and tacos. Make sure you get their early to get your last fix of Mema's tacos because when they are gone, they are gone.
According to their Facebook page, this is what they stated, "To all of our loyal customers...I want to thank you for the good times. Our closing is an unfortunate result of many things, most of all the deadstill economy and rising prices. Rather than sacrifice quality and service, the decision was to close the doors. So, thank you Tampa, for everything..."
For those of you who remember, Mema's Alaskan Taco has been a long term business in Ybor and they started in a small building on 17th Street before moving to their current location. They have been able to build a good fan base and people are sad to see them leave. The food is great, they have many different types of beer, they sometimes had live music or DJs, and the location was good.
This is definitely a sad day for Ybor City, Tampa, and all the loyal patrons of Mema's Alaskan Tacos and all those who never got to try their food. If you are looking for your last fix, make sure you head to Mema's today. They will be having Shawn Kyle from The Beauvilles will be performing a set at 7pm and draft beer will be two for one until it is gone.
