Marlow’s Tavern might not be the last restaurant you ever try, but they do craft an extremely exceptional experience. And a guest could become so accustomed to the food quality, appealing prices and stellar service dished out here that it would be disappointing to dine other places.
Here are a few of the ways Marlow’s makes a lasting impression that will keep you coming back.
Come as you are and be as casual and comfortable as you wish, show up in your best business attire or make a more stylish entrance and dress for success. All are welcome and well-accommodated, whether it’s families with toddlers, tweens or teens, couples, co-workers, groups and any of the above accompanied by dogs. A covered patio area is perfect for guests with pets, plus water and treats - for the furry, four-footed clientele - are provided gratis. Or order something off the “Yappy Hour” menu. Among the culinary selections created for canines are chicken breast and beef tenderloin. Your dog is sure to woof it down.
You can enjoy unlimited happiness here. Hate trying to remember which day of the week entitles you to discount prices when you are out and enjoying drinks? Every day at Marlow's Tavern offers happy hour specials on drinks and, only on Wednesdays, on select appetizers as well. Prices are just as nice for all of the food served here and it all features plenty of great flavors and portions that won’t leave you longing for more. Want fries with that? Sandwiches and burgers come with a selected side dish that’s part of the price (Note: A very few of the side options add $1-$1.50 to the bill).
Staff at this Carrollwood neighborhood tavern are not just well-trained, well-prepared and welcoming, they are downright friendly and not in that fake, forced way. And they aim to please. If you have a favorite dish that one day disappears from the menu, never fear. If they have the fixings in the kitchen, and you don’t mind waiting a few more minutes, they will whip it right up for you. Nice!
But the real reason for this to be your go-to spot when going out to eat is the food and craft cocktails that are made-from-scratch and masterfully created and presented.
First, the food. There are many menus and a variety of dishes to enjoy. Gluten-free? They have an entire list for that. Hungry children? How about a grilled tenderloin with fries and steamed broccoli, just one of the great items on the Kids Menu. Got a bunch hungry for Sunday brunch? There are plenty regular menu items available plus only-at-brunch dishes like the crab cakes eggs Benedict with grilled jumbo asparagus or “The Champagne of Breakfast’ which includes fried chicken sliders, apple-wood smoked bacon, breakfast sausage, huevos rancheros, house-made hash browns and a freshly opened bottle of Miller High Life beer. It’s all yours for a sweet sum of $16. Quality is a main ingredient on these menus. Shaved prime rib is what you bite into while devouring the French Dip. All sauces, dressings and glazes are made on-site. Only baked goods are delivered and they come from a bakery that uses proprietary recipes.
This is a chef-driven restaurant due to the fact that CEO and co-founder John Metz is the mastermind behind the menus. With nearly three decades in the hospitality industry, formal training at the Culinary Institute of America and experience with restaurants worldwide, Metz keeps the selection at Marlow’s Tavern fresh, fun and flavorful. Asparagus fries will entice anyone reluctant to eat their veggies and the Shrimp & Grits may be the best in its class with its white cheddar grit cake, sautéed spinach, succulent shrimp and roast tomato beurre blanc.
“John’s menu strategy is to offer a lot of changes to keep it fresh, seasonal, exciting and interesting,” said Alan Palmieri, co-owner, and partner.
Even the beverages are better than most. There is a fine selection of wines that are all available by the glass or bottle and canned, bottled, draft and craft beers as well as “secret recipe” red or white sangrias. Craft cocktails are concocted using premium liquors, freshly squeezed juices and real lemons and limes. No mixes or pre-made anything has a place at this bar.
Taverns are typically conceived to be convivial gathering spots where regulars hoist a few beverages and basic, but filling, food is served. This is a top-tier tavern.
“We wanted to re-invent taverns. Marlow’s Tavern conjures up friendly people, delicious food, and great drinks,” said Palmieri. “We want to be known for robust flavors and warm, friendly service provided in an affordable, approachable atmosphere.”
