A local coffee roaster has created a special blend to celebrate Tampa's favorite pirate-themed holiday of Gasparilla, and even added to some of the lore in the story of the Spanish Naval officer turned rogue.
Joffrey's Coffee of Tampa has created "Gaspar's Brew" as part of the celebration of Gasparilla. They claim the coffee bean cherries used in the coffee are the same as those from the legendary pirate for whom the celebration is named, Jose Gaspar. The new roast will also be the official coffee provided at many Gasparilla events throughout Tampa.
“Being a part of the Tampa Bay community since 1984, we are extremely honored and excited to be the Official Coffee for Tampa’s Gasparilla Celebration, and to bring this unique blend to life,” said Joffrey's CEO Ted Abrams in a statement. Joffrey's was one of the first to bring the gourmet coffee roasting trend to the Bay Area, and now services a long list of clients throughout Florida, including a significant presence at Walt Disney World.
