The gastropub concept has been flourishing in the Tampa Bay area for a while. From U.K.-inspired grills and bars to down home American pub with a variety of contemporary, hearty entrees, the idea of an establishment with equal emphasis on drinks and food has never been more well-received in the 813.
The newest, and likely most intriguing, to spring up in the area might just be Dale 1891 in North Tampa. Opened in late October, Dale 1891 takes the gastropub concept and adds an old-school, prohibition style feel rife with live music, 3D TVs, an inventive menu filled with seasonal American fare, and a full bar featuring expertly crafted cocktails, wine, and draft beers.
Head Chef, Jason Dame comes from a solid personal history of professional training and culinary work in the Tampa Bay area. After graduating from Johnson and Whales, he moved to Tampa and cooked at the legendary Mad Dogs and Englishmen Pub. Soon after, he went on to assist in Datz's transformation from deli to gastropub before hopping around and eventually taking the culinary helm at Dale 1891.
The menu he's crafted comes filled with a variety of forward thinking, affordable dishes including appetizers, salads, tacos, sandwiches (sammies), and a collection of house favorites.
Pre-meal highlights at Dale 1891 include Spicy Sesame Guacamole ($8) with chips and veggies, NYC Pretzel Bites ($6) with truffle-asiago salt and honey mustard seed dip, and crispy artichoke hearts ($6) with basil leaves and lemon garlic aoli.
As for the main course, you can chow down on a variety of tacos ($10) including Korean Beef and Thai Chicken; sandwiches like the P.C. Reuben ($8) with pork loin and the Chicken Brie ($8); and house favorites including the classic fish and chips ($12), Street Chicken ($10) with chicken thighs, napa cabbage, rice noodles, curry, herbs, and chilis, and Pork Chops ($14) with apple butter, spicy Asian cabbage, and sweet fries.
Stop by at Dale 1891 for a great meal or relaxing drink, welcome 'em to the neighborhood, and see what they're all about!
