As Downtown Tampa becomes more of a live-work-play destination, more and more businesses that cater both to workers and residents of the area are arriving. Enter City Market Eats, filled with grab-and-go items from some of Tampa's local eateries, as well as hot dogs, soups, and ice cream. Their grand opening was this morning, and the prime location is walkable to thousands of people in the core of the city.
"We really wanted to embrace the City of Tampa, and bring a local, fresh, fun vibe to Downtown," said general manager Jaz Diaz, who also served as the photographer for the framed pictures adorning the northwest corner of the space. The dogs and ice cream dominate the dining counter, and their eponymous coffee subtitled "813 Go Joe" is a special blend just for City Market Eats from Tampa's Brisk Coffee Roasters. "We wanted to have a fun, cool variety of items that you can't normally get downtown, but you can now."
"It's all about embracing the local vibes: Tampa, the city I love, 813, TPA. That's our brand."
The grab-and-go coolers are all sourced locally, coming from area vendors such as Pipo's, Intelligent Gourmet, and ReBuilt Meals. There's also a small area for convenience store items, essentials, and candy, with plenty of freshly-scooped ice cream also available. The gear in stock is also likely to be a big hit with the locals, as these hats ($20 each), shirts, and mugs won't stay on the shelves long with more people proud of their 813 homes than ever.
Owned by 23 Restaurant Services, the location is right next to other concept Yeoman's Cask & Lion Pub on 206 N. Morgan Street, right in the heart of a growing section of central downtown that becomes more vertical each day.
"I think at the end of the day, Downtown Tampa lacks some convenience items, and with so much going on, so much residential has been built here in the last couple years, for us the timing was right." said Marc Brown, President of 23 Restaurant Services, "With our partnerships with all of these companies here, it's about grab-and-go food from places around Tampa that don't have a presence in downtown, that's what we were trying to accomplish with it all. In the City of Tampa, it's such an exciting time, and we want to be a part of that."
