Just in time for the cold-but-enjoyable winter months here in Tampa, a new city park is set to premier in North Tampa next week.
Deemed the New Tampa Nature Park, this outdoor recreation hub will open to the public on Monday, November 26 with a Grand Opening ceremony at the park, located at 17001 Dona Michelle Dr. in New Tampa.
The New Tampa Nature Park will feature an assortment of outdoor attractions well-suited for adults and kids alike. These include a zipline where kids can speed (safely) down the line hanging over the park and nature trails connected to Hillsborough County's larger Flatwoods Park trail system.
In addition, the 122-acre park will play home to an elevated boardwalk "nature walk" that traverses the wetlands inside the park, an additional nature walk, picnic areas, and a rock and rope playground climber for the kids.
The New Tampa Nature Park lies east of Interstate 75 and south of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard on a parcel of land acquired by the Florida Communities Trust Preservation 2000 program and the Hillsborough County Environmental Lands Acquisition and Protection Program. According to a statement from the city, the cost of the park was $927,469, funded through the Community Investment Tax funding.
