This was my second time attending Martinis for Moffitt and I honestly could not believe the turnout; this was the hottest ticket in town on Saturday August 6. Pretty much the who's who of the Tampa business community was there.
While the 2015 event was also sold out, Bay Area Advisors and all of the sponsors of the event outdid themselves this year. There was something to do and see all over the venue which included dazzling entertainers, food, live music and dance tunes by DJ Fresh for later in the evening and dozens of items up for silent and live auction.
Upon arrival the air was electric with excitement and the hundreds of people were spread out over several major areas inside the Straz Center for the Arts. From the pre-function areas on the first and second floors to the massive air conditioned tent out back, there was not one inch left empty.
Since its inception, the Bay Area Advisors have raised more than $800,000 through the tireless efforts of its membership and the support of Moffitt Cancer Center, hundreds of donors, volunteers and businesses.
The event supports Moffitt Cancer Center's critical cancer research programs.
The Bay Area Advisors added Moffitt’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Program as a beneficiary of the 2016 Martinis for Moffitt event. The Adolescent and Young Adult Program (AYA) addresses the unique concerns and emotional needs of young adults with cancer. The program is committed to providing ages 15 to 39 with specialized medical and psychosocial clinical care.
The AYA Program exists to help young adult patients and their families:
- Manage the emotional toll of their cancer.
- Receive access to cutting-edge clinical trials and state-of-the-art care.
- Understand and discuss the importance of family planning.
- Connect with others who are also facing cancer and coping with similar issues.
I was very happy to attend this worthwhile event for such a wonderful cause. I look forward to going back in 2017!
