Last year, D.G. Yuengling and Sons beat out the Boston Beer Company, the brewery behind Sam Adams, to become the largest beer producer in the United States by volume sold according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
With a main brewery in Pottsville, PA and an additional one right here in Tampa (which you can tour for free), Yuengling sold 2.5 million barrels of beer during 2011, a 15 percent increase from the year before. Their flagship beer, Yuengling Traditional Lager, was the best-selling super-premium beer and the fifteenth most popular beer in the U.S. in 2011, according to Bloomberg.
This is no sudden increase, though. The company value of D.G. Yuengling and Sons has soared over the past ten years due to increase demand for craft beers in the United States. Today, the domestic brewing company is valued at $1.8 billion according to research by Bloomberg.
Yuengling is only sold on 14 U.S. states, but even with its small geographical footprint the Pennsylvania brewery has managed to take the top spot. Also interesting, Yuengling's draft beer sales account for approximately 30 percent of its business, three times the industry average.
If you want to see what Yuengling is all about, their Tampa brewery offers free tours and tastings all throughout the week. We'll attest, they're pretty darn good too. For more information, visit yuengling.com.
