Well, this is surely the most intriguing news of the week for any local and/or live music fan in the Tampa Bay Area. A new area music fest has reared its head into internet-world with little fanfare, but seemingly big promise.
A Facebook page for the Gasparilla Music Festival appeared in late July, but didn't really start gaining local publication and blog attention (including ours) until late last week. The fest is slated for a date (or dates?) during the Spring season of 2012....and that's about all we know for now.
What we do know is that it's got some heavy competition if it wants to be the next great music fest in the Tampa Bay Area. After WMNF's Tropical Heatwave in May and the hugely successful, 2nd Annual Antiwarpt Fest in Downtown St. Pete in August, the Gasparilla Music fest is gonna have to pull some heavy punches to enter the pantheon of these great fests.
Not that we aren't rooting for it, of course. With a name like Gasparilla attached to it, it seems like this thing could be on just the same level (or maybe bigger?!) than Tropical Heatwave and Antiwarpt.
We'll definitely keep you posted as more details arise on this for-now mysterious music festival coming in Spring 2012.
