If you have considered hiring a personal trainer in Tampa, what is it you are looking for exactly? Are you even sure you know? The following guidelines may help you narrow down your search in order to find the nutritionally superior soul mate of your dreams!

First things first, Personal trainers are not necessarily a luxury reserved for the rich and famous. Anyone can hire a personal trainer for a number of reasons. Whether you are preparing for a big audition, your wedding day, High School Reunion or simply want to feel better about your body, a personal trainer can help. The amount of diet and exercise propaganda we are bombarded with every day is overwhelming. Hiring a personal trainer will teach you the right techniques for your body to look and feel its best.

Finding a personal trainer should entail an interview process. Just like choosing a new boyfriend/girlfriend, not only is it OK to have high standards, it is essential! Play hard to get. Your new PT is going to watch you sweat, grimace and other not so attractive things all while wearing spandex…be picky! The same way you think about babysitters, cleaning services, and car mechanics should be the same way you think about hiring a personal trainer. Make a list of questions, ask for recommendations, and seek information from people you trust and most importantly: do your own research!

Look for “gym cred” in the form of a National certification. UNLIKE the boyfriend/girlfriend interview comparison, you want your personal trainer to have been around the block. A national certification proves the PT has served hard time, gaining experience and expertise in the field.

If you choose your bakery based on their specialization, shouldn’t you look for the same in your PT? Every trainer who has worked long enough has developed an area of expertise. If your goal is to run a marathon, look for a personal trainer who has ran a marathon and whose clients have also ran marathons too. It is actually more important to evaluate the success of the trainer’s clients since they are the ones paying for the service. The specialization of your new PT should directly correlate to the fitness objective you set from the beginning.

Lets talk about sex. The body composition, hormone levels, ability and shape of the male and female body are completely different. The nutrition, muscle mass and desired appearance are typically different as well. Take this into consideration when choosing a personal trainer. It is absolutely possible for a female trainer to train a male successfully and vice versa. That being said, you must remember that the expectations you discuss with your trainer before initiating a fitness regimen must take into consideration your sex. Sure Renaldo has a killer six pack and staring at his arms really takes the burn out of the fifth set of squats, but it won’t be so cute when you’re plucking the hair off your chest from all those “supplements” he swore by! He’ll never ask you out now that all of the other trainers mistook you for his twin brother Jorge! It could be time to do some more interviews…

At the end of the day, the perfect personal trainer should be the rock behind your physical fitness that will steer you towards healthier living. Your relationship should feel like a perfectly functioning machine. If your personal trainer makes you feel codependent, starved and needy or you find yourself calling every hour just make sure he “still cares”…get out now! The time commitment and duration of your training is completely up to you. If at anytime you feel like your needs are not being met or you are not being heard, its time to move on. Remember, YOU are Beyonce and your PT is just the back up dancer! If you hire the right one, a personal trainer can help you find the inner confidence and radiance to make any man want to put a ring on it!
