The 813area Podcast resumes with Gasparilla Week recorded live from the Tampa Bay WaVE studios! Co-hosts Collin Sherwin and Brock Bjorn discuss the looming pirate invasion and the chance Mayor Bob Buckhorn defends the key to the city; spoiler alert, not great Bob! In addition to what makes this the most wonderful time of the year, the guys bring your local pod guide to what to do, when to do it and how to get there for Gasparilla and NHL All Star Weekend. From the best places to park, bike and ride share, to where to watch the invasion and catch more beads than your neck can handle! The guys even tell you the best after party deals that are easy to access from Bayshore so you don't have to worry about getting around.
This week Collin invites special guest Tony Mulkey, Superintendent of Special Events for the City of Tampa, to tell us a little more about what it takes to make this event function, the best places to drive and park if you plan to be at The Invasion, and where to avoid if you're driving through the city. Tony also gives us a tip to text the word 'Gasparilla' to 888-777 to receive up to date notifications on schedule alterations, traffic congestion and more; a great companion to stay in the loop with everything going in Downtown Tampa! The guys also talk about which streets downtown will be closed starting Friday night and alternative routes or which streets will just be congested with traffic. Also all of your fun NHL All-Star Weekend events, where to park, and how they coincide with Gasparilla on Saturday. Don't forget to have fun, be safe and be responsible!
