The City of Tampa now has a second signature public park and is celebrating with Riverfront Rock on Mother's Day Weekend 2018 for the grand opening of Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park May 12th and 13th. The weekend will be headlined by a Saturday night concert from Third Eye Blind, most well-known for their hit Semi-Charmed Life, and a Sunday night concert from The Florida Orchestra.
Since it opened, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park has been a key driver of bringing events and people to Downtown Tampa. The City of Tampa hopes Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park can have the same impact on the West Bank of the Hillsborough River, and has made the development of the park and the community a priority over the last several years.
“This park truly has something for everyone,” said Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. “We look forward to, decades from now, looking back on what will serve as the anchor for the West River Redevelopment and reminiscing on what will be a memorable weekend. So come out, bring your family and friends and enjoy two full days of activities in Tampa’s new Riverfront Park!”
Other events for Riverfront Rock weekend include the 5th Annual Mayor's Mac and Cheese Throwdown on Saturday, May 12th from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., leading into the Third Eye Blind concert at 8 p.m., and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 13th, which doubles as Mother's Day 2018, will feature yoga at 9 a.m. and a boot camp class at 10 a.m., both near the newly-constructed boathouse. The U.S. Navy Band plays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. leading into The Florida Orchestra and a Tampa Mother's Day fireworks display later in the evening. Check out the City of Tampa's event website for the full list of activities for Riverfront Rock.
