Local charity organization, My Hope Chest, has a unique mission and take for fundraising their cause with their first annual Butterfly Glow Walk, 5K Fun Run, and After Party--all to take place on Saturday, September 20th.
What My Hope Chest strives for, is to honor breast cancer survivors with a focus on breast restoration. This is an aspect of the disease that is not often spoken of or contributed towards. Many people are mistaken with the idea that larger breast cancer charities cover all aspects of the disease--this is far from the truth.
In 2010 it was estimated that around 22,000 women a year lose their breasts, and remain breastless because of being under or uninsured. The importance of funding towards awareness and treatment is not to be overlooked--so helping with the aftermath of the disease should not be as well.
Founder and survivor, Alisa Savoretti, explains, “I realized how my own self-esteem, confidence and self worth as a woman returned when I could look in the mirror and see my whole ‘physical’ being once again. It was my healing, a restoration in body, mind, and spirit”.
Every bit helps in this mission to make a huge difference in a survivor’s life--and participating in the Butterfly Glow Walk is the perfect way to help make a step towards changing a person’s life while raising awareness of this amazing charity.
This charity walk is based on the theme of transformation. It all starts with supporters of the cause signing up their “Butterfly Teams” (those who help survivors “transform” into “butterflies”). Registration is currently open. On the date of the actual event, the Butterfly Glow Walk and 5K Fun Run will take place at 7pm at Hurley Park. Expect awards, music, food, and games at the After Party taking place at the finish line.
