What is greatness? Fame? Success? Money?
Martin Luther King Jr. once remarked that all that is required for greatness is “a heart full of grace” and “a soul generated by love.”
By that definition, Justice Perez, a student at a local Title 1 high school, personifies greatness with her love for others.
Her most recent act of service? The idea to take her friend who is in the hospital with osteosarcoma - a type of cancer affecting the jaw - to prom. Yet, in the pursuit of making her dream a reality, Justice didn’t know if she had the resources to go to prom on her own, much less with her friend.
This is where 7eventz, a local event-planning company/charity organization stepped in.
With the help of sponsors, they offered a prom scholarship via a written entry/school committee selected contest. Justice submitted her’s about her friend and all he’d been through. She never thought she’d win.
Yet, this past Friday, on the high school’s morning show, Clint Bertucci, founder of 7eventz completely surprised Justice. He acted like she was coming on the show to answer more questions for the contest, but instead they brought out a plethora of gifts from sponsors and announced she was the winner.
“Her face was priceless!” Bertucci remarked. “There’s no way in the world we could’ve ever imagined having a more deserving, caring, and selfless winner.”
He continued by expressing that, “what meant the most about winning the prom scholarship which was that she would have the opportunity to take her friend, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and has been battling it for years.”
On Friday’s morning show, the selfless goal became a reality for Justice and her friend, of whom Bertucci noted was “everything she said he was”, a young man with “incredible optimism.”
The prom itself is this Saturday night at 7 p.m. Local sponsors who are helping make the night special for the dynamic duo are 7eventz, dress-specialists Lending Luxury, Men’s Wearhouse, Channelside’s Italian restaurant Cena , Modern Enterprise Solutions, Paris Salon & Day Spa, Apple Blossom Florist, Jose Lopez Jr. Photography, and Branding Cam.
Each have collaborated to provide a prom dress, dinner for two, prom tickets, roses, a corsage, hairstyling, a manicure, make up, photos, and video for what promises to be an unforgettable night for two incredible friends.
