Juneteenth National Independence Day is an annual celebration of African-American culture and a commemoration of the nationwide emancipation of slaves in Texas, occurring on June 19th, 1865 in Galveston. Also known as Black Independence Day, Juneteenth in Tampa and the rest of the country marks the end of slavery in America and the arrival of freedom for African Americans. The celebration has spread across the nation, where celebrations include discussion panels, readings, concerts, parades, and more.
