It's not every day a major motion picture gets filmed in Tampa. It's definitely not every day one directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Channing Tatum gets filmed here. But, that's happening right now as principle filming for Magic Mike, a movie loosely based on Tatum's career as a male stripper in Florida before he picked up acting.
Filming began Monday for a party scene filmed on Treasure Island just outside of St. Pete Beach. The film, which also stars Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, and Matthew Bomer, shot scenes at Caddy's on the Beach as well as a sand bar near Fred Howard Park in Tarpon Springs.
Soderbergh and company will continue filming Wednesday in Tarpon Springs before moving to the Pinellas Bayway Bridge on Friday where they'll shoot a scene with someone jumping off a bridge. On Saturday, they'll film at an undisclosed construction site in Pinellas County before moving to Tampa to shoot on Sunday and Monday.
Keep an eye out, Tampa Bay area. Let us know if you spot Magic Mike filming throughout the week.
