MOSI in Tampa kicks off Memorial Day weekend with “astronomical” discounts for military members and their families as they launch a “stellar,” new exhibit called 'Cardboard Space Adventures'. Read on to see how beginning this weekend through June 30th ALL kids can get in FREE!
A Stellar Military Deal and Exhibit at MOSI Summer 2017
Starting on Saturday, May 27, all active-duty military members and their families receive free admission to MOSI through the end of Labor Day weekend on Monday, September 4. For the fourth year in a row, MOSI has partnered up with USAA to offer great military discounts, the museum is part of the Blue Stars Museum Program. Although the hope is for whole families to enjoy MOSI together, sometimes loved ones are away from home either living on a military base or deployed overseas. Fortunately, families of military members not present can still participate in the museum’s free admission program with the following forms of identification:
- DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID)
- Geneva Convention common access card (CAC)
- DD Form 1173-1 ID card
In addition to the active-duty military member, MOSI’s military discount applies to five family members per visit. Free admission includes access to the museum's 400-plus interactive exhibits, and paid upgrades are available for IMAX films as well as the Sky Trail Ropes Course and Zip Line.
Veterans can also bring up to five family members to MOSI for free during Memorial Day weekend with evidence of prior service.
During the summer, military members and their families will also have the chance to explore MOSI’s newest hands-on exhibit: Cardboard Space Adventures, which aims to set a Guinness World Record. From May 27 through August 13, guests in this exhibit are transported to a space station or alien city made completely out of cardboard. Families can explore these elaborate cardboard worlds, play a giant Space Invasion video game using cardboard game controllers, and discover tunnels beneath the alien city in a giant maze. They can also construct their own imaginary cardboard parts to add to a life-size spaceship, and the unique parts will stay attached to the spaceship, creating a dynamic masterpiece.

Requiring a lot of time, hands, and, of course, cardboard, Cardboard Space Adventures was brought to life with help from Piedmont National and Leggett & Platt. When Cardboard Space Adventures closes on August 13, MOSI plans to recycle all of the cardboard used in the exhibit.
Come to MOSI this weekend, especially if you or a loved one is in the military, for a fun-filled day with the family exploring exhibits like Cardboard Space Adventures and make memories this summer.

With Memorial Day weekend in Tampa approaching, MOSI Chief Advancement Officer Bryn Warner says, “If Mom or Dad is deployed and away from home, MOSI is a great place for families to forget about their worries for a day.
