With artists like Major Lazer, RL Grime, and Above & Beyond, it’s no surprise that the Sunset Music Festival 2017 (SMF) has already sold out of VIP tickets and general admission is selling almost as fast.
Opening May 27, people are already buzzing about Tampa's Memorial Day weekend electronic festival. Fifth time attendee Nicholas Day talked about his excitement for the groups performing, “I love the headliners but they have better smaller names this year.”
Most music festivals really focus on their headliners, giving maybe a square inch sized space to up and coming names, but SMF is different. This festival not only exists to showcase some of the biggest names in EDM but also provide an outlet to DJs whose talent is maybe not as known.
With a three-stage design, the venue is able to showcase all the different types of EDM the festival has to offer. They, of course, have their main stage which will feature RL Grime and Major Lazer back to back but also Eclipse and Horizon. Both of these stages have their themes with Eclipse being bass and trap music while Horizon is more techno and trance music, which allows SMF’s guest to create their ideal festival.
When it comes to production value, Sunset Music Festival 2017 shows the true artistry of this genre of music. The acts aren’t only considered artists because of their music, but also for their art in production. Images and videos shown during a set - all are designed by the artist to help enhance the experience of the festival.
The culture of this festival is to set it apart from all other music festivals around the globe. Attendees really make it their own, dressing up in themes or costumes and creating totems to help identify the groups they came with.
