The original store, located in South Tampa in the Palma Ceia area, opened in 1962 as Dud Thames bicycle shop. In 2006, the store changed ownership and has grown, adding a second location in Westchase in 2008. In 2009, Flying Fish was recognized as one of the top 100 bicycle retailers in the country by Bicycle Retailer Magazine.
