Many people may know of the D-10 Society from all of the events they host here in Tampa including their St. Pete First Friday Celebrations, annual New Year's Eve Parties, Redneck Balls and more much. But, you may not know who The D-10 Society are and what they truly represent. Not only do the D-10 Society's events raise thousands of dollars for local charities, but the organization touches the hearts of many, including myself. My brother recently suffered a major stroke that initially left him paralyzed on the right side and without speech and little ability to communicate. It not only has taken a toll on him, but his friends and family as well. His road to recovery will likely take years. The D-10 Society contacted me upon hearing about what happened and said they wanted to help by donating the proceeds from their February First Friday event. I was at a loss for words. Ray Rose, one of the board members and founders of the D-10 Society said, and I quote, "We are all here to support each other. When someone in our community is in need, we all come together and do what we can to help." It really shows the character of this organization and the many like them. They not only make donations but they share that feeling of giving with everyone that attends their events. Everyone that attended that First Friday Celebration did not just have a night out on the town, they helped support my brother. My brother, Chris, is a selfless man. He himself is one that always supports people in his community and beyond. Whether it is donating his time at soup kitchens, taking part in charity fundraising events and even running with the homeless in the "Back on My Feet" program. Like my brother, The D-10 Society helps others in need, not for the feeling they get for helping others, but for the feeling others get in helping others. I want to give a special thank you to The D-10 Society for their contribution, not only in the donation to my brother, but for the gift of inspiring others to support their communities and humanity.
